Modernisation and Expansion of Paros Airport: Accommodating Larger Aircraft by 2026

A €41 million project to transform the airport into a modern facility

The new Paros Airport is undergoing modernisation and expansion while ensuring that current flight operations remain unaffected. The project, overseen by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, aims to enhance the airport's infrastructure to improve passenger experience and accommodate the increasing air traffic to the island.

With a budget exceeding €41 million, the project includes the construction of a new 12,500 m² terminal, which will be 17 times larger than the current 745 m² terminal. It also involves building a new control tower, a modern fire station, and new parking facilities that can accommodate 550 cars, with designated spaces for buses, people with reduced mobility, and electric vehicle charging.

A crucial aspect of the project is the runway extension, which will increase from 1,400 meters to 1,800 meters, allowing the airport to accommodate larger aircraft. This expansion will not only increase the operational capacity of the airport but also provide additional aircraft parking spaces, with four new positions for jets and updated lighting systems.

The project also includes the installation of a biological wastewater treatment facility and a hydrocarbon separator system to protect the local environment. Additionally, a 100 kW photovoltaic system will be installed to harness solar energy and connect to the national power grid.

These new infrastructures are expected to be progressively delivered by the summer of 2026. The Director of the Civil Aviation Authority (YPA), Mr. Georgios Saounatsos, emphasized that these improvements will position Paros as a major tourism hub, offering high-quality infrastructure to enhance the passenger experience. In 2023, the airport served 331,852 passengers and recorded 6,781 aircraft movements, with a 12% increase in passenger traffic already observed for 2024.
